# How to read a record — Irish companies listed for strike-off

> What the record is, what the status means, and what is left out.

## How to read these records

### Which companies

Two tests, both from the CRO open file: the status is “Strike Off Listed”, and the last accounts were made up to a
date in 2019 or later. Health-care companies are left out.

### Two routes

A company can ask to be struck off when it has stopped trading. The Registrar can also list a company that has
not filed its annual returns. The open file does not say which route applies.

### After the strike-off

A struck-off company is dissolved; what it still owns passes to the State. It can be restored to the register by
application.

### What is not here

Names of directors or any individual. Street addresses. Companies already dissolved, and companies in
liquidation.

**Director of a company listed for strike-off?**

The internal data of a company that employed 50 people or more (Slack or Microsoft Teams archive, documentation, project histories) may still have value after it has stopped operating.

[Check whether this company’s data qualifies →](/pro.md) We are paid by the buyer if a partnership is signed, never by the company. Whether personal data in those archives can be transferred is a legal question for whoever controls them. Not affiliated with the Companies Registration Office.
